I’ve had this box for about as long as I can remember; it’s like a matryoshka doll, but with wicker turtle boxes with wooden turtle handles. At the center is a brooch, also shaped like a turtle.

Bio

Unyimeabasi Udoh is an artist and graphic designer who seeks to make peace with the void, with concern for surface and absence, text as image, blackness as color and construct, and how systems of communication and knowledge are created and maintained. They are a co-founder of Plates: An experimental journal of art and culture. Udoh holds an MFA in Visual Communication Design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BA in Architecture from Columbia University, and is a recipient of fellowships and residencies from the Driehaus Museum, Chicago Artists Coalition, and ACRE.
